Antidepressant Medicines :
Generic celexa is a cheaper version of celexa, a very effective and trusted Antidepressants medicine. Generic and brand name celexa have identical active ingredient Citalopram hydrobromide, and Citalopram hydrobromide will produce the same therapeutic effect as the brand name drug. Generic medications can usually be purchased for a fraction of the cost of their branded counterparts. Because generic medications are often much cheaper than their branded counterparts, many people choose buying generic medications online, and many insurance companies actually require that they be used. The combination of generic substitutions and reference pricing would give patients an incentive to choose the cheapest product, while helping them avoid unnecessary costs.
Generic Celexa (citalopram HBr) is an orally administered selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with a chemical structure unrelated to that of other SSRIs. Citalopram works by restoring the brain's chemical balance by increasing the amount of a natural substance called serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical that helps nerve cells in the brain communicate and is believed to affect ones mood. Celexa is available in tablet and liquid forms.
Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Citalopram. Using Citalopram alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks. If you experience a worsening of your symptoms (anxiety, agitation, insomnia, irritability, restlessness, or suicidal thinking) contact your doctor immediately. Citalopram will add to the effects of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants. Additional monitoring of your condition is recommended at the start of treatment with Citalopram and whenever a change in your dose is made. The effects of Celexa during pregnancy have not been adequately studied, and the potential for harm has not been ruled out.
Celexa Drug Reactions
If intolerable symptoms occur following a decrease in the dose or upon discontinuation of treatment, then resuming the previously prescribed dose may be considered. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication once daily in the morning or evening, with or without food or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. If you are using the liquid form of this medication, measure the dose carefully using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. To reduce your risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start taking this drug at a low dose and gradually increase your dose.
Celexa Intake Guidelines
Neonates exposed to Celexa and other SSRIs or SNRIs, late in the third trimester, have developed complications requiring prolonged hospitalization, respiratory support, and tube feeding When treating pregnant women with Celexa during the third trimester, the physician should carefully consider the potential risks and benefits of treatment. If you happen to miss a dose and it is yet a long time for the next scheduled dose, you may take your missed dose. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
The side effects associated with discontinuation and considered drug-related (i.e., associated with discontinuation in at least 1% of Celexa-treated patients at a rate at least twice that of placebo) are shown in TABLE 1. The cited figures, however, do provide the prescribing physician with some basis for estimating the relative contribution of drug and non-drug factors to the adverse event incidence rate in the population studied. The potential relationship between the dose of Celexa administered and the incidence of adverse events was examined in a fixed-dose study in depressed patients receiving placebo or Celexa 10, 20, 40, and 60 mg.
Management Of Overdose
Although changes in sexual desire, sexual performance, and sexual satisfaction often occur as manifestations of a psychiatric disorder, they may also be a consequence of pharmacologic treatment. In particular, some evidence suggests that SSRIs can cause such untoward sexual experiences. Reliable estimates of the incidence and severity of untoward experiences involving sexual desire, performance, and satisfaction are difficult to obtain, however, in part because patients and physicians may be reluctant to discuss them. Celexa and placebo groups were compared with respect to (1) mean change from baseline in vital signs (pulse, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure) and (2) the incidence of patients meeting criteria for potentially clinically significant changes from baseline in these variables.
