Generic Amoxil is a cheaper version of amoxil, a very effective and trusted Antibiotic medicine. Generic and brand name amoxil have identical active ingredient Amoxyciliin, and Amoxyciliin will produce the same therapeutic effect as the brand name drug. Generic medications can usually be purchased for a fraction of the cost of their branded counterparts. Because generic medications are often much cheaper than their branded counterparts, many people choose buying generic medications online, and many insurance companies actually require that they be used. The combination of generic substitutions and reference pricing would give patients an incentive to choose the cheapest product, while helping them avoid unnecessary costs.

Amoxicillin (the active ingredient of Generic Amoxil) is a semisynthetic antibiotic, an analog of ampicillin, with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Common infections that amoxicillin is used for include infections of the middle ear, tonsils, throat, larynx (laryngitis), bronchi (bronchitis), lungs (pneumonia), urinary tract, and skin. It also is used to treat gonorrhea. Each tablet contains 500 mg amoxicillin as the trihydrate.

Amoxicillin indications

Generic Amoxil is indicated in the treatment of infections due to susceptible (ONLY beta-lactamase-negative) strains of the designated microorganisms in the conditions listed below: Infections of the ear, nose, and throat - due to Streptococcus spp. (alpha- and beta-hemolytic strains only), S. pneumoniae, Staphylococcus spp., or H. influenzae. Infections of the genitourinary tract - due to E. coli, P. mirabilis, or E. faecalis. Infections of the skin and skin structure - due to Streptococcus spp.

Amoxicillin precautions

The possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind during therapy. If superinfections occur, amoxicillin should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted. Each 200-mg chewable tablet of Amoxil contains 1.82 mg phenylalanine; each 400-mg chewable tablet contains 3.64 mg phenylalanine. All patients with gonorrhea should have a serologic test for syphilis at the time of diagnosis. Probenecid decreases the renal tubular secretion of amoxicillin. Concurrent use of amoxicillin and probenecid may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of amoxicillin. Chloramphenicol, macrolides, sulfonamides, and tetracyclines may interfere with the bactericidal effects of penicillin.

Amoxil drug interactions

Anaphylaxis Serum sickness-like reactions, erythematous maculopapular rashes, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, hypersensitivity vasculitis and urticaria have been reported. NOTE: These hypersensitivity reactions may be controlled with antihistamines and, if necessary, systemic corticosteroids. Following administration of ampicillin to pregnant women, a transient decrease in plasma concentration of total conjugated estriol, estriol-glucuronide, conjugated estrone, and estradiol has been noted.

Generic Amoxil overdosage

The most frequently reported adverse events for patients who received triple therapy were diarrhea (7%), headache (6%), and taste perversion (5%). Since this effect may also occur with amoxicillin, it is recommended that glucose tests based on enzymatic glucose oxidase reactions (such as clinistix) be used. augmentin was negative in the mouse micronucleus test, and in the dominant lethal assay in mice. High blood levels may occur more readily in patients with impaired renal function because of decreased renal clearance of amoxicillin. Studies to detect mutagenic potential of amoxicillin alone have not been conducted; however, the following information is available from tests on a 4:1 mixture of amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate.
